Get Back on the Road with a VicRoads-Approved Behaviour Change Program

Lost your licence because of drink or drug driving? Completing a Behaviour Change Program (BCP) is a mandatory step before you can apply to get your licence back.

Our programs are designed not just to meet VicRoads requirements, but also to give you practical tools to reduce the risk of re-offending and make safer choices in the future.

What the Behaviour Change Program involves

The program is about more than just ticking a box. During your sessions, you’ll:

  • Understand the reasons behind your offence
  • Look at the impacts and consequences of drink or drug driving
  • Develop strategies to avoid re-offending
  • Learn how alcohol and drug use affects decision making and road safety

To successfully complete, you’ll need to:

  • Be punctual and attend every session
  • Contribute to group discussions and activities
  • Complete the participant handbook
  • Fill out the alcohol and/or drug use questionnaire

When you’ve met all requirements, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion, which you then present to VicRoads as part of your relicensing application.

Which program do you need?

Your VicRoads Relicensing Letter will confirm the exact program required. Depending on your offence, you’ll be directed to one of three:

  • Drink Driver Program – usually for a first-time drink-driving offence with a BAC under 0.15.
  • Drug Driver Program – usually for a first-time drug-driving offence.
  • Intensive Drink & Drug Driver Program – required for repeat offences, high-range drink driving (0.15+), offences involving both alcohol and drugs, refusal offences, or more serious driving charges such as dangerous driving or police pursuit.

If you’re unsure which program you need, check your VicRoads letter or call Driver Relicensing Services on 1300 723 790.
